What is the Laser Skin Resurfacing / MicroLaser Peel?
The epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) is approximately 100 microns thick. The Micro Laser Peel is an INTRA-EPIDERMAL laser peel that precisely ablates part of the epidermis, between 10 to 50 microns.
How is the Laser Skin Resurfacing / MicroLaser Peel different from Microdermabrasion?
Generally, Microdermabarasion only removes the stratum corneum (10 or fewer microns). The Micro Laser Peel is a partial-to-full epidermal peel (20-50 microns) and is performed with topical anesthetic. Because this procedure ablates deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and full skin resurfacing.
How many Laser Skin Resurfacing / MicroLaser Peels can be done?
Typically, the procedure is repeated 2-4 times, spaced 6-8 weeks apart, but many peels may be done to achieve the desired result.
What can you expect?
You will experience smoother and more vibrant skin, with a significant, immediate change in skin texture and tightness.
How long is the healing process?
Healing takes 3-4 days. The procedure can be performed on a Thursday or Friday, so you can return to work the following Monday. Symptoms immediately following the procedure resemble a sunburn, with minor sloughing on the second day. Redness will begin to fade by the third day, and is largely gone by the forth day, although the skin can be pink for a few more days. Make-up can be applied at this point if desired until the pink color fades. It is possible to do several sessions of more superficial treatments rather than a single deeper session, if the patient wishes to avoid the days of redness that are seen with a deeper treatment.
