Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Dr. Chavez been providing laser and other cosmetic treatments?
Dr. Chavez started Clearwaves Medical Laser Group in 2004. Initially, she focused purely on laser acne treatments. Her goal was to provide long term acne relief without using potentially harmful prescription medications, creams, or other treatments that put a “bandaid” on the problem. After about 6 months, Dr. Chavez learned about a phenominal new tattoo removal laser that would remove tattoos without scarring! Then, just a short time later, the “smart lipo” was released and the technology for both minimally invasive and non-invasive fat reduction exploded! Although we offer many additional services at Clearwaves Medical Laser Group, Dr. Chavez felt that by focusing on acne and acne scarring, laser tattoo removal, and fat reduction, we could always stay at the forefront of the ever-changing and improving technology!
What should I consider, when choosing an office for my treatments?
Of course, you want to make sure the physician has the experience and expertise to best take care of your needs. Also, they need to have the right equipment (and know how to best utilize it!) If they only have one laser available for acne, for example, they are very limited in their ability to customize the best available treatment option for every clients’ needs. For acne treatment questions visit our acne treatment FAQs page.
Aren’t there offices that provide these treatments cheaper?
Yes – and, we recognize that price is an important consideration. That’s why we have many ways to help clients save money. However, there are many more aspects of the treatment and the service to consider than just price. And, of course, you have to be careful – a “cheaper” treatment is sometimes… just that! If it takes more treatments, or a less-effective laser is used, or if side-effects occur, it suddenly doesn’t feel like such a bargain. “Bargain shopping” isn’t always the best way to make decisions when it comes to your body. Many clients have come to us, for example, after doing several “cheaper” tattoo removal treatments elsewhere, with poor results. For tattoo removal questions visit our tattoo removal FAQs page.
Why do you have so many different treatment options for a given condition, rather than just offering the BEST one?
We wish there was ONE best treatment, for everyone! However, it’s just not the way it works! That’s why we have multiple devices for acne treatments, tattoo removal, fat reduction, cellulite/skin tightening, acne scarring, and more). For example, with fat reduction, one treatment may be better on one area, and another treatment may be better on another! That’s why we let clients “mix and match” different fat reduction options, as they choose, to best meet their needs! For fat reduction questions visit our tattoo removal FAQs page.
Do you offer refunds?
If clients choose to sign up for our treatments, and then change their minds, move, have financial hardships, or decide to not continue our treatments for ANY reasons, we give them a full refund of ANY unused treatments.
Does insurance pay for the treatments?
The insurance companies have classified these types of treatments as “cosmetic”, and, therefore do not pay for the treatments. However, flexible spending accounts / medical savings accounts DO generally pay for the treatments. Check with your FSA/MSA to verify, however (a few specifically exclude cosmetic procedures).
Are laser treatments safe?
Laser treatments, generally, have an excellent safety profile – However, some have more risks than others. Dr. Chavez was an Emergency Medicine physician for 10 years before starting Clearwaves Medical Laser Group. Her focus is always on safety, and doesn’t feel that it’s “worth” doing a cosmetic treatment if it could sacrifice health. She has always chosen lasers (or other cosmetic devices) with the combined highest safety record and highest effectiveness available.
Can laser treatments cause cancer?
No – our devices do not emit any UV rays or any other wavelengths that have ever been associated with any increase cancer risk.
Are laser treatments safe during pregnancy?
There are no studies suggesting that any of our treatments are dangerous during pregnancy. However, we always recommend clients to discuss this with their PCP / ObGyn, prior to starting the treatments, to make sure we are all “on the same page”.
What other services do you provide, besides acne treatment, tattoo removal, and fat reduction?
We have great systems for wrinkles and fine lines, sun spots, spider veins, cellulite, and more!
